Recommendation Letter Requirements

Here are some statements:

You have taken/are taking an advanced class with me.
You have done a research/reading project with me.
You have shown both great interest AND potential in STEM research.
You are really impressive (e.g. above A range).

To request a recommendation letter, it is necessary, but not sufficient, to have (1 OR 2 OR 3) AND 4. Of course, it is also necessary that you get what all this means :)
